BIOGRAPHY
The French lyric soprano, Lyriel Benameur, is finishing her vocal studies at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria), in the studio of Dr Michèle CRIDER.
Growing up in a family of volleyball players, she spent the first 18 years of her life in sports halls and championship competitions. After obtaining her A-level (Economic sciences), she started her management studies at the University of Lyon, and additionally passed the entrance exam of the Regional Conservatory of Music of Lyon. In 2014 Lyriel was awarded her HND in Art Business and Management, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management. She then started working as an artistic events coordinator in Europe. In addition to this, she joined the studio of voice teacher Pierre RIBEMONT and received her first opportunities to perform on stage for concerts and festivals. These included Bachfest Leipzig, Lyon Festival de Harpe, Festiv’Arts, Amphithéatre de l’Opéra National de Lyon and more.
After a semester abroad at the UMD School of fine Arts (USA), during which she won the 2nd Prize of the NATS Minnesota competition, she was accepted into the Mozarteum University of Salzburg in 2018. She becomes recipient of the Gianna-Szel Scholarship on year later.
At the Mozarteum she mainly portrays Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) and Nerone (L'incoronazione di Poppea), conducted by G. Sahler and staged by A. von Pfeil. She makes her German debuts in the role of Mariana (Das Liebesverbot) with Opera Incognita, and in Anna (Nabucco), Sklave (Salome) and Clorinda (Aschenputtel - Kinderoper) at the Immling Festival 2023.
Equally formed in Opera and in Lied & Mélodie interpretation, Lyriel took part in several masterclasses and received the City of Torgau Prize at the International Singers Academy of Saxony in Germany in 2021, before winning 5 Prizes at the 13th International Melody Competition in Gordes. She has been invited in concert at Grand Avignon, Toulon and Nice opera houses, at the Festival des Nuits musicales en Armagnac, Festival vibration(s). Lyriel has also been a semi-finalist in international competitions such as the Mozartwettbewerb in Salzburg (2023) and the Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Voice-Piano Competition 2023, with her duo partner Hugo Perès.
In France, Lyriel has performed the roles of 2. Dame (Die Zauberflöte) at the Théâtre de Tarare (conducted by Q. Hindley), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) and Contessa di Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Festival des Concerts au Coucher du Soleil (adapted and conducted by C. Diederich). In 2023, she performed at the Amphithéatre O. Messiaen at the Opéra de Paris for two concerts, as a laureate of the Fonds Tutti. This season, she will notably make her debuts as Micaëla in a special production of “Carmen Intime” at Opéra Grand Avignon. She is currently creating her first show combining visual arts and French melody.
